BRING DANCE TO EVERY BODY.

The Dance Your Ability Training Program is a two-part learning journey for people who want to understand the Dance Your Ability method and develop the skills to facilitate inclusive movement experiences for people of all ages and abilities.

$475 CAD — Complete Training Program

FOUNDATIONS → FACILITATION → CERTIFICATION

Dance Your Ability is an inclusive approach to movement that recognizes that every body has a unique dance and magic happens when dance floors are inclusive and accessible.

Our Training Program gives you both the understanding and practical skills
to bring this work into your own community, organization, classroom, care setting or movement practice.

Whether you are an experienced facilitator or completely new to leading movement, this training will give you a foundation in the method and the confidence to begin facilitating inclusive and accesible experiences.

THE TRAINING PROGRAM

FOUNDATIONS → FACILITATION → CERTIFICATION

The program unfolds in two steps.

STEP 1 — FOUNDATIONS
Learn the Dance Your Ability method

FOUNDATIONS is an 8-module / 10-hour, self-paced online course introducing the philosophy, structure and practice of Dance Your Ability.

You'll explore:

  • The Dance Your Ability method and class structure

  • Inclusive movement principles

  • Trauma-aware language and facilitation

  • The science and spirit of expressive group dance

  • Adaptations for different ages, abilities and communities

  • Practical tools for creating welcoming movement spaces

  • Downloadable resources, playlists and training materials

You'll have lifetime access to the course and resources, allowing you to learn at your own pace and return to the material whenever you need it.

FOUNDATIONS is a complete learning experience on its own. Have a look HERE.

STEP 2 — FACILITATION
Move from understanding the method to embodying it.

After completing Foundations, you'll join a live online Facilitation cohort.

This is where the learning becomes embodied and practical.

Together we'll explore what it means to actually lead a Dance Your Ability session - with warmth, confidence, flexibility and presence.

You'll:

  • Practice the DYA facilitation structure

  • Develop your authentic facilitation voice

  • Learn how to adapt movement for different bodies and abilities

  • Design and lead short DYA sessions

  • Practice in small groups and dyads

  • Receive real-time feedback

  • Explore inclusive and trauma-aware language

  • Learn how to create warm, welcoming spaces

  • Integrate the method into your own work and community

The Facilitation training is designed to be supportive and experiential. You do not need to arrive as an experienced teacher or dancer.

You need curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to creating spaces where every body can participate.

What People Are Saying

“I recently took the UK training in London with Alex and Shauna. Their absolute passion and devotion to the work is deeply moving and awe inspiring. I left with a heart blasted wide open excited to take this work into my community here in East Sussex! If you feel called to join the training - do it! Highly recommend.“
- Elena, UK

“The DYA training offered me plenty of insights into working with a diverse range of populations. With a mixed approach including plenty of hands-on exercises, I was able to integrate many of the practices outlined throughout the facilitator training.”
- Lucia, Texada Island, BC

“I’ve been dancing 5Rhythms for 30+ years and work as a support worker for people with physical & cognitive disabilities, and when I found Shauna & DYA, I knew had hit the jackpot!!! I immediately registered for the inaugural DYA training in 2019 and haven’t stopped moving since!”
- Jen Massie, Whitehorse, Yukon

“This was an excellent short training course. Shauna and Alex are both such warm, experienced and inspiring facilitators. The quality of the materials and sessions were well-balanced - plenty of time to experience the DYA model, understand adaptations for different communities and time to practice facilitating in a supportive group setting. This was a great addition to my skillset as an Open Floor teacher, giving me confidence to take conscious dance into a wider range of communities and settings - this makes my heart sing! And for people newer to facilitating or dance it was an accessible introduction and gave a good grounding in the skills needed for this vital work."
- Subhanaya, Open Floor Teacher, Scotland.

“I felt called to step in and begin offering therapeutic dance and movement in my community and DYA was the Gateway for me to take the Leap!”
- Mary Lloyd, Victoria, BC

“My overall experience with the sessions and the agenda was incredibly positive and affirming. I must offer a special mention for the Manual. It is truly amazing, comprehensive, and such a valuable, deep resource for the training. The way it is structured—so professional and highly informative—makes it an indispensable tool. I anticipate using it consistently as a primary reference for my own preparations and future sessions. Thank you for providing such a well-crafted foundation for this work; it significantly enhances the learning and practical application.”
